BREAKING! Mask-free flying in the EU is back again!
From 16 May, passengers and the crew will no longer have to wear masks at EU airports and onboard flights within the EU. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have issued a joint health code of practice on this matter.
No more masks
The coronavirus pandemic has completely rewritten people’s lives. It also changed the world of aviation. To control the epidemic, masks were made mandatory.
The mandatory wearing of masks was in force at all airports in the European Union and on all flights in its airspace.
Different individual regulations
The EASA and the ECDC point out that the specific rules on mask-wearing may vary according to the country of departure, the destination country, and the airline’s own rules.
Several EU Member States, such as Hungary, have already abolished mandatory mask-wearing.
The two organisations have also issued some recommended guidelines, airportal.hu reports. According to this recommendation, it is worth introducing mandatory mask-wearing on flights that involve a country or region where wearing a protective device is mandatory for public transport. Several airlines have already followed this practice in the past.
According to Ryanair, there are 15 such countries in Europe. These are Austria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain.
The distancing rule may also be abolished.
At least, the EASA and the ECDC are asking airport operators to do so in their statement, writes turizmus.hu.
